Need some help with a Palmtop or Smartphone device?

I’ve been using Palmtop Computers and more recently Mobile Smartphones for 21 years now! Supporting users of: Symbian Smartphones, Psion Palmtops, Palm, Blackberry, Pocket PC, Windows Mobile, iPhone & iPod Touch and Android devices, otherwise known as PDAs, oh AND the great new PsiXpda UMPC with:

  • Transfer of data from old PDAs (E.g. Psion, Palm, Pocket PC etc) to new PDAs (E.g. iPhone, Blackberry etc);
  • Synchronisation of PDA data (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks & Notes) with PC software (E.g. Microsoft Outlook);
  • Back Up of data on to PC/Mac or memory card;
  • Configuration of email;
  • Advice on upgrade options and
  • MORE! (BUT, PLEASE NOTE – I don’t sell PDAs/Smartphones OR repair them)

Look no further, you won’t be dissapointed! get in touch with Ozzie on +44 (0)7889 374086 or via an email to ozziehallosman [at] btinternet [dot] com, also see I trust you can understand my email address (to avoid spamming software!!!).

Nokia PC Suite v Nokia Ovi Suite

I’ve been using Nokia’s great ‘PC Suite‘ on and off for many years and currently have version installed in-sync with my Nokia N97-Mini. I have given Nokia’s latest ‘Ovi Suite‘ version a far chance to convince me that it’s better.
In my opinion, here are my thoughts:

Nokia Ovi Suite:

  • Good to sync your Contacts (c/o Outlook), Photos, Messages, Music, Calendar/Tasks/Notes (c/o Outlook) and Bookmarks (c/o Internet Explorer). Keeping your data safe;
  • A nice photo/image album πŸ™‚
  • Good for software/firmware updates, as and when they’re available;
  • Good to sign in your Ovi account each time Ovi Suite starts up;
  • I don’t like the way that Contacts, Photos, Messaging and Music are ‘in your face’ with the main home view, too large and prominent!;
  • The worst things and the main reason that I favour the older ‘PC Suite’ is that:
  • The Ovi Suite is currently TOO DAMN SLOW! it takes a long time to sync data! 😦
  • No periodic auto-sync whilst device is connected! 😦 😦
  • There is no built-in Calendar in Ovi Suite! 😦 😦 😦

Nokia PC Suite:

  • SYNCHRONISE – really quick sync with Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Tasks & Notes πŸ™‚
  • Sync can be automatic every 15mins whilst the device is connected πŸ™‚
  • CONNECT TO THE INTERNET – use your Mobile/Smartphone as a 3G modem πŸ™‚ [Beware of your data usage! Your PC will pull a lot more data than on the small screen of your mobile/smartphone] However, occasional connectivity for a few emails is ok.
  • CALENDAR – aΒ very nice built-in Calendar to make quick amendments rather than starting Outlook, also it means that the PC Suite could be used as a desktop Calendar and Contact address book instead of Outlook! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
  • MESSAGES –Β a very handy andΒ kool way of sending and receiving text messages from your PC πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Thumbs Up for Nokia’s PC Suite, thumbs down for the new Ovi Suite. Interested to hear comments from readers…
