CoPilot 8 ‘Live’ on an iPhone, Part.3

07/10/2010

CoPilot Info Bar is a very nice feature that I particularly like ๐Ÿ™‚ it gives youย the facility to quickly customise the ‘Info Bar’. Showing either:
a) Destination;
b) Current Road (useful if you need to let someone know where you are);
c) Nearest Town;
d) ETA & Distance;
e) ETA & Time Remainingย (my favourite :-));
f) Speed & Distance.

Nokia N97 Mini – my current smartphone

20/02/2010

This has got to be my quickest change of devices, it must have been, within one month, I fell in love with my new Nokia E55 but then decided that I really needed a fully QWERTY keyboard mainly due to the large amount of data entry I do with a smartphone and so have now fallen for the Nokia N97 Mini. See Nokia’s (N97 Mini) Spec. Buy the way, look out for my E55 on eBay, ecuse the plug!

Ok, where shall I start… I didn’t fancy the N97 Classic due to the bad press over the scratched lens problem (even though Nokia Care Centres have a fix) also didn’t like the wasted keyboard space with the D-Pad on the left. So, the N97 Mini runs the powerful Symbian S60 5th edition and is currently at software v.11.0.045 (dated 14-01-10).

What I like best:

  • The overall size (113 x 52.5 x 14.2 mm @ 138g);
  • The very usable full QWERTY keyboard;
  • The very useful Key/Screen slide lock;
  • Nice Speakers (stereo?), Volume Up/Down, Camera Key, Central 3.5mm Jack;
  • Nice Touch Screen – good with finger tip or PDA stylus;
  • Nice Menu Key.
  • What I’ve yet to get used to….. sliding open the keyboard, practice makes perfect! ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Oh and one software plug… Ovi Maps is just great! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

What am I using the N97-Mini for: Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, Email, Texts, Voice Recorder, FM Radio, MP3(Music)/MP4(Video) Player, Podcasts, Web Browser, Photo/Image Album, BBC iPlayer, Camera/Video, Facebook, Skype/MSN Messenger/Twitter, SatNav, Word/Excel/PDF viewer, YouTube, London Underground Map, Dictionary, Converter, Calculator and last by no means least… Phone Calls! (I did say earlier that I considered myself a power user!) I wonder how long I’ll use the N97-Mini for???

Need some help with a Palmtop or Smartphone device?

19/02/2010

I’ve been using Palmtop Computers and more recently Mobile Smartphones for 21 years now! Supporting users of: Symbian Smartphones, Psion Palmtops, Palm, Blackberry, Pocket PC, Windows Mobile, iPhone & iPod Touch and Android devices, otherwise known as PDAs, oh AND the great new PsiXpda UMPC with:

  • TECHNICAL SUPPORT & TRAINING
  • Transfer of data from old PDAs (E.g. Psion, Palm, Pocket PC etc) to new PDAs (E.g. iPhone, Blackberry etc);
  • Synchronisation of PDA data (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks & Notes) with PC software (E.g. Microsoft Outlook);
  • Back Up of data on to PC/Mac or memory card;
  • Configuration of email;
  • Advice on upgrade options and
  • MORE! (BUT, PLEASE NOTE – I don’t sell PDAs/Smartphones OR repair them)

Look no further, you won’t be dissapointed! get in touch with Ozzie on +44 (0)7889 374086 or via an email to ozziehallosman [at] btinternet [dot] com, also see http://www.palmtopman.com. I trust you can understand my email address (to avoid spamming software!!!).

Symbian S60 (5th Ed) – the Main Screen

18/02/2010

The main ‘Content’ screen on a Symbian S60 5th Edition can be easily customised enabling very useful information, application shortcuts and four quick dial contact favourites.

On my Nokia N97-Mini as shown in the screenshot:

  • for starters there’s a good sized clock at the top left (analogue if preferred)-tapping on this is a shortcut to the ‘Clock’ application ๐Ÿ™‚
  • top right is the day/date-tapping on this opens the ‘Calendar’ application ๐Ÿ™‚
  • below is the current profile name-tapping on this opens up the ‘Profile’ settings, so that you can easily change profiles ๐Ÿ™‚
  • then you’ve got up to 5 areas where you can add a choice of content or a choice of shortcuts, in my case:
    1) ย Upcoming Calendar appointments ๐Ÿ™‚
    2)ย  Incoming emails ๐Ÿ™‚
    3)ย  Application shortcuts – Calendar, Notes, Messaging, Bluetooth ๐Ÿ™‚
    4)ย  Application shortcuts – Wi-Fi Connectivity, Voice Recorder, Message Reader, FM Radio ๐Ÿ™‚
    5)ย  Favourite Contacts Speed Dials –ย (in my case) Samantha /ย Adam / Alicia / Home
  • The bottom middle is a ‘keypad’ launcher for dialling conventional numbers, on the lowest righthand corner is a changeable hot key, in my case ‘Contacts”.

Alternatively you could hide all of this really useful information by selecting ‘Options’ and choosing ‘Hide content’; then perhaps having a nice image/photo.
